Hold Back Light Show Streaming Free

For the month of January we are streaming Hold Back Light Show in the music section of winhara.com.

Hold Back Light Show was our debut album, recorded over the span of 2 years with Byron Kent Wong, and released in October of 2008. (Some of you may remember our release party at The Rivoli in Toronto).

The tracking, mixing and mastering of this album took us to many strange and wonderful places (Shogun Labs, Homework Studio, Canterbury Music Co., Jao Carvahlo Mastering) and introduced us to equally wonderful people.

If you would like to get a copy of this record for your very own you can do so in a couple of ways. Hold Back Light Show is being sold at Soundscapes in Toronto.

Winhara Gets All Christmasy

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack frost nipping at your nose. We’re getting further into December and we figured it was time to get into the Christmas spirit! So we covered a popular christmas song (The Christmas Song) and filmed an accompanying holiday video!

Due to circumstances beyond our control we will not be able to open for Polarity tonight at their East Coast Tour kick off. The concert will still be on at the Hard Luck Bar in Toronto. We will be playing another show soon so we hope to see you then!

Intimate Set at Mitzi’s Sister

September 2nd we will be heading out Queen West to play at a little bar/eatery called Mitzi’s Sister. We chose this intimate setting because it’s the perfect place to perform those tunes that often get overlooked in our large loud live sets.

Songs like Mercy Please and Baby Steps will be played among others that sometimes get squeezed out much to certain listeners’ dismay.

Waterloo Concert

We have just been offered a show in the Kitchener/Waterloo area. On Saturday July 24th we will be at Maxwell’s Music House with up and coming solo artist Andrew Allen.

We played in Kitchener last fall and it was one of the best shows we can remember. The energy was amazing. If you can get to this show it will be well worth your while!

Doors are at 9:00. Cover $7.00, $5.00 for students.

Winhara at Yonge and Dundas Square

From 8:00pm to 11:00pm we will be setting up camp at Yonge and Dundas Square to promote our upcoming NXNE showcase (Saturday June 19 at the Bread and Circus. Info here).

On stage at that time will be Sloan, K-Os and Said the Whale. So drop by say hi and grab a t-shirt and cd (only $10 each).

New Song Almost Completed

We continue work on our second album, Beta Collection, and have just received the latest mix of our newest addition – an upbeat track called Five Alarm. While ‘road testing’ this song it has received extremely positive feedback, more from the movement of the audience than anything else.

If all goes according to plan, we will be releasing this track for free download via our website sometime next week before our showcase at North by Northeast on Saturday night.

In the meantime we have posted a live version of ‘God Save the Queen,’ recorded at our recent show at C’est What. Listen to it now!

Winhara to Play NXNE

This year we will be part of a showcase at Toronto’s annual NXNE music festival. We will be taking the stage Saturday June 19th at the Bread and Circus with other electro/rock/pop acts including The Clear, Hexes and Ohs, NLX, Airheart and Purrr.

This promises to be an amazing evening (we are equally excited to watch the other acts as we are to play) so don’t miss out. More details to follow…
